Navigated Brain Stimulation in Neurosurgery

More Information
Within the last year more scientific evidence was published that improved surgical planning by presurgical navigated TMS mapping offers a clinical benefit to some of our most challenging patients. nTMS mapping does not merely add more” data, it allows for preoperative risk-benefit balancing based on objective data and
improves patient counseling and compliance. Using nTMS data to standardize DTI tractography has vastly improved the clinical value of this technique and supports not only orientation during subcortical tumor resection but also interpretation of intraoperative
neurophysiological phenomena. The scientific data strongly support the notion that nTMS motor mapping should be part of standard care for patients with tumors in presumed eloquent location. Also, several papers on nTMS language mapping have further improved
our understanding of nTMS language mapping and have addressed the clinical value of this intriguing technique.
The Symposium is supported by Nexstim oyj.
